The UMass Amherst Computational Biology Lab in the Department of Computer Science is concerned with computational and modeling problems behind many of the major questions in molecular biology and genetics. Our bioinformatics research involves the use of machine learning, modeling, and optimization techniques for DNA and protein sequence analysis. We maintain a mix of theoretical and applied experimental research with projects ranging from the technical development of novel microarrays to the theoretical intersection of computational geometry and protein folding.

We are currently looking for qualified applicants to pursue Ph.D. studies in our laboratory starting September 2008. A successful applicant will combine experience in life sciences and computer science. For information on the graduate admissions process in our department, please see this departmental page. Qualified applicants with a background in life sciences and computer science may also contact Oliver Brock or David Kulp.
